The Organization is monitoring developments concerning the new coronavirus on a daily basis, and seeking to reduce the risk of transmission of the COVID-19 infection and protect persons at higher risk through balanced and operationally applicable measures. The general approach is to focus on the on-site activities that are deemed essential for strategic or operational reasons while continuing the work of the Laboratory.
The new coronavirus can pose a higher risk to people over the age of 65 and to those with certain pre-existing medical conditions (link to OFSP)*. Part of CERN’s duty of care is to protect the health of all persons with vulnerabilities.
With this in mind, starting from Monday 16 March and until further notice: access to the CERN sites for people over the age of 65 will be suspended except if their on-site activity is deemed essential for strategic or operational reasons, in which case it should be approved by the relevant Department Heads or the Spokespersons of the experiments.
